The oil and gas companies’ corporate social responsibility will become the main topic of the conference. It will also review samples and prospects of social partnership, education and environment protection. Support for the oil and gas forum - APEC 2009 has already been provided by the Government of Kazakhstan. Invited participants include representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Environment Protection, JSC “Sovereign Wealth Fund “Samruk-Kazyna”, JSC National Company KazMunayGas, and other entities. Sponsors include famous companies such as Tengizchevroil and FMC Technologies.
After Kazakhstan gained independence, the oil and gas industry has been the critical component in the country’s economic and political development. Today, apart from performing its basic activities, this industry takes an active part in top-priority government and social programmes, as well as international and important campaigns at the national level. Every year, leading companies invest in the development of social facilities: schools, medical and pre-school institutions, health centres, rehabilitation centres for the disabled, and sport facilities. These vivid examples of corporate responsibility deserve public recognition and must be supported by mass media and large-scale events such as APEC 2009.
The oil and gas conference - APEC 2009 will include discussions of effective solutions for current social and economic problems via investment from oil and gas companies in the social areas, as well as outlooks for further development of this sector considering the current trends in the Kazakhstan society. Apart from that, special attention will be paid to the companies’ initiatives in environment protection and environment safety.
Notably, oil and gas conference - APEC 2009 will be held on 28 April at the Rixos President Astana Hotel in Astana. The event will be held every two years.
